HOW TO MEASURE YOUR MODULAR KITCHEN

The planning phase of our kitchen remodel is the time to consider our wishes, wants, and needs and get them written or drawn out. If we want our kitchen remodel to be a success, then be meticulous in  measurements. Being off by even as little as an inch can cause real problems and frustration. imprecise dimensions are the best way to make sure cabinets doesn’t fit! We start the planning process by figuring out how big the kitchen is. Using graph paper with corresponding squares equalling one foot of real space will aid in making the sketch accurate and to scale. Step by step flowchart  to measure:
      • Walls: Start off by facing the wall that has the sink on it and label the wall as follows:
Wall #1 is the wall to your left, wall #2 is the wall with the sink, wall #3 is the wall to your right and wall #4 is the wall that’s behind you. If your kitchen only has three walls , adjust the wall labelling to fit your kitchen layout. Start on by measuring alongside the floor to get the exact length of each wall. subsequently measure the same direction about midway up the wall. Now measure the same direction a third time at the ceiling. Walls are rarely square and can often be off by as much as an inch or two. You need to know the exact size of each wall, so compute each one at these three points. Order your cabinets using the widest of the three measurements. If you don’t, you’ll have a gap between the wall and the end cabinet If your kitchen has a soffit , measure distance from the floor to the bottom of the soffit. Also measure the soffit’s depth and height. ALWAYS KEEP TOLERANCE OF 25mm LESSER  IN THE ACTUAL MEASUREMENT
      • Doorways: Measure both the location of the doorway on the wall and the size of the doorway, including the  Starting in the left-hand corner for each measurement ensures accuracy; it’s too easy to make a mistake on the location of the door in the wall.
Start in the left-hand corner of any wall that has a doorway in it. Start at a spot halfway up the wall in the left-hand corner and measure from there to the edge of the door trim. Next, measure the width of the door including the trim on both sides. If the wall happens to have more than one door, measure each door location separately starting at the left-hand corner. Don’t measure from the edge of one door’s trim to the edge of the next door. Don’t forget to measure the height of the door (including trim), too. Note the location and dimensions on your paper.
      • Windows: Start in the left-hand corner of the wall with a window and measure the distance from the wall corner to the edge of the window trim. Measure the window’s width and height including all sides of trim. Finally, measure the distance from the floor to lower edge of the bottom piece of trim. Use these measurements to draw the correct size window and transfer these measurements onto your paper.
      • Pipes, vents, outlets, and switches:Accurately note the location of all receptacles, electrical switches, drainpipes, and venting ductwork. Once again, start in the left-hand corner of the wall with each specific item in it. This time, however, measure to the centre of the items including the outlets, drainpipes, or ductwork. Again, transfer these dimensions and positions onto your drawing.
Now that you have all of the dimensions you need, you can actually draw your new kitchen layout. Start by playing around with different locations for the appliances, but always keep in mind where the power sources are located, unless you’re planning on moving them to accommodate an appliance’s new spot. Don’t be afraid to change the location of a specific size cabinet within a specific run, either.

The best way to get the most economical Modular kitchen is to identify the purpose and shape of the kitchen along with the use to keep it simple yet elegant which give it an edge from good to wow.
        1. U-shape kitchens works well in small areas because their ergonomic allows for plenty of hidden storage and a seating area.
        2. Think about a split-level surface to put up a committed dining space. It’s storage can be maximised with ladder unit, tall wall units, pantry, etc which highlights the height of the room, while the U-shape enable you to get the perfect working triangle in the kitchen with cook-top, sink and fridge on opposite sides of the U.
        3. L-shaped kitchens can also work in undersized spaces, with the appliances, such as the oven and hob, on one side of the worktop and a sink on the other. If space allows, you can extend the worktop on one side to create a dining bar – you just need to add bar stools.
        4. Parallel kitchens are also popular in long, narrow rooms, especially those with a window or door at the end. In such kitchen place the sink on the opposite side to the oven and hob, so you can simply turn from one to the other while in a straight kitchen, aims to have a good length of workspace between the two. it’s advisable to have the oven and hob at one end of the worktop and the sink at the other.
        5. Identify spaces – purpose is the most important considerations when setting up any kitchen and in a dense room it’s more crucial than ever that the entire space works in the most well-organized way.
        6. Try to define different zones for storage, preparation, cooking and cleaning but if you can’t, then you may need change some either design or activities.
        7. The preparation area for instance could also be the place for informal dining while a glass or ceramic hob can double as a workspace when not in use. Think carefully about your choice of worktops to ensure that the material is suitable for a range of applications.
Make a list Before you start your kitchen work, take a through walk in your current kitchen and write down the points how you use it now also write how you would like to use the new kitchen. Where would you like to place everything ? Consider the sink area, the storage, appliances, and the amount of workspace. also consider how many people will be using the kitchen, what type of cooking you enjoy and how you would like things to be dissimilar. These are the points and can help you write down your priorities. Select appliances carefully There are various options for smaller kitchens when it comes to appliances. in the cooktop range there are various designs in different brands with 50cm, 55cm and 60cm widths to choose from. Built-in ovens can be installed in a vertical column to save space while many manufacturers offer a compact range of ovens, microwaves, steam ovens, coffee machines in a 45cm height instead of the usual 60cm, enabling you to mix and match to suit your needs. Slim-line dishwashers are ideal space-savers offer a well-organised nine place setting while hobs come in a linear design configuration to save valuable worktop space. Clear the clutter Lack of worktop space is often a problem in a small kitchen but by keeping it clutter-free and only placing essential and regularly used items on the surface, you will maximise the working area. Consider including an inset birch end grain timber block as an additional preparation space – this will also avoid having chopping boards scattered across the worktop. Flush-fit sinks and hobs will enhance the feeling of space as they make the room appear larger due to their seamless finish. A sink with a glass cover can even double as an extra prep space when not in use. Space-saving storage Once you’ve trimmed down your kitchen kit, it’s time to find a home for it. Resist the temptation to pack as many units as possible into the room, as this will make the kitchen feel cramped and closed in. Instead, use clever storage solutions such as larders and magic corners to make the most of every inch of cupboard space. Open shelving looks great in an alcove as an alternative to a wall unit and is the perfect spot for cookery books and your favourite pieces. Use splash backs for hanging rails and tambour shutters to conceal small appliances. Illuminating ideas Lightning plays a very important role in the kitchen. Good lighting can make all the difference to a small kitchen, help to light up dark spots while providing task lighting for worktops and cooking areas and a soft cosy glow for everyday use. Use feature lights to highlight open shelving or the interior of glass-fronted cabinets and plinth lights to make the floor space appear larger then team with light-reflecting materials such as high gloss units. Keep it simple It is advisable don’t try to fill too much in the kitchen. Have a really good sort out and only keep what you regularly use.. Keeping the design consistent in terms of décor, furniture and flooring will also help create the illusion of space. Be realistic about what your kitchen can accommodate and stick to it. pale flooring, High gloss handless cabinets, and a neutral colour scheme will all help to make the room appear lighter, brighter and bigger.
